In a recent article published in The New Indian Express, the Government of India’s ₹37,500 crore coal gasification scheme was highlighted as a strategic initiative to reduce dependency on imported LNG and fertiliser feedstock while strengthening domestic energy security. The programme aims to promote coal gasification projects that convert coal into value-added products such as fertilisers, synthetic natural gas, methanol, and chemicals. As India advances its energy transition and industrial self-reliance goals, coal gasification is emerging as a key enabler for import substitution, resource optimisation, and sustainable industrial growth.
